On Tatooine, shortly after Anakin Skywalker, the Lars family and Padme Amidala buried Anakin's mother, R2-D2 approached the group and said someting in droid language. C-3PO translated that R2 had received a message from a person named Obi-Wan Kenobi and soon Skywalker, Amidala, and the droids left the homestead to listen to the message that Kenobi transmitted from Geonosis, on Amidala's yacht. Padme rerouted the message to Coruscant as soon as playback was started. Kenobi reported that he snuck into a facility on Geonosis and watched a meeting of Separatist leadership, where it was revealed that Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation was behind Amidala's assassination attempt. The last moments of the message shown that Kenobi was captured by destroyer droids. On Coruscant, Jedi Council members along with Republic officials viewed the message in Palpatine's appartments. When the message concluded, Mace Windu ordered Anakin to stay on Tatooine and protect Amidala. Initially Anakin decided to honor Mace Windu's order, but Amidala convinced him that rescuing his mentor was the right thing to do and they departed for Geonosis. Meanwhile on Coruscant, Jedi and Senators were debating of whether they should respond to Separatists threat by deploying a newly discovered clone army or not. Palpatine was confident that the debate in the Senate on this matter would drag on forever. Mas Amedda mentioned that only if Palpatine were granted emergency powers would he be able to make the decision himself. Palpatine somberly remarked that no Senator would make such a bold proposal except perhaps Amidala. Both Palpatine and Amedda looked to Jar Jar Binks.
